Rugby Union

At the Bristol Bisons we’ve been playing competitive contact rugby for over 20 years and while we initially took part in local friendly matches, we’re now a part of the much larger International Gay Rugby (IGR) organisation, which organises rugby union matches, tournaments and events for hundreds of inclusive rugby clubs across the world. In the United Kingdom specifically, the Bristol Bisons are one of 40+ IGR rugby clubs.

The Bisons incorporates players that have never played rugby before, players that are returning to sport after years away and those who may have had premiership academy or county team experience. Everyone is welcome!

When & Where

Training Days

Twice a week, rain or shine!

Our rugby union training sessions are held on Monday and Thursday evenings, from 7pm until 9pm, at Cleve RFC.

Sessions are designed to meet players exactly where they are – building confidence for newcomers, offering challenge and refinement for experienced athletes, and fostering growth for everyone in between. If Rugby has always interested you, get in touch and come along for a session.

General FAQs

I’ve not played contact rugby before

That’s absolutely fine! You’re welcome to come along to our training sessions and give them a go! For new players we offer the first 3 sessions for free, allowing you time to decide if you like it or not. We’re confident you will! You only need to do what you’re comfortable with, so don’t worry we’re not necessarily expecting you to jump into all the contact stuff from day 1!

Do you offer touch rugby?

We do, though usually in the warmer months. That said most of our contact sessions involve touch rugby drills too. Playing touch games is a great way for us to improve our handling skills, etc. so you might still enjoy a contact training session! Do you have a development team?

Yes, We always aim to a field a development team if we can. Whether that be in a league, local tournament or in friendly matches, a development environment allows our players to hone their skillset and improve as a rugby players. There’s no pressure to play any games until you feel absolutely ready to though!

How do I get involved?

Chat to the Membership Secretary by messaging us on Instagram or emailing info@bisonsrfc.co.uk for more info on how to get stuck in! We always welcome new members and we’d love to have you. Membership of the Bisons is just £12.50 per month. There is also a small supplement payable if you play in a match to cover food and transport, where applicable. “Bisons, Bisons, Bisons”
